At Bay Yamaha, we’re proud to be locally owned and operated — and even prouder to introduce the driving force behind it all: Steve Lockart.

Steve is a trade-certified marine technician with over 30 years of hands-on experience in the marine industry. Born and raised in the Bay of Plenty, his journey began with an apprenticeship in Whakatāne, where his passion for marine engines took shape. Since then, Steve’s career has taken him far and wide — from the shores of Auckland and Wellington to the coastlines of the United Kingdom — gaining a wealth of knowledge and skill along the way.

For the past 10 years, Steve held the role of Marine Service Representative for Yamaha Motor New Zealand, supporting dealers across the country with technical expertise, training, and product support. This national-level experience has deepened his knowledge of Yamaha’s world-class marine technology and strengthened his commitment to delivering outstanding service.

Throughout his career, Steve has worked on both private and commercial vessels, developing a deep understanding of all things marine. A highlight of his professional journey was being selected to participate in Yamaha’s prestigious Technician Grand Prix, a competition that recognises the top Yamaha marine technicians from around the world — a true testament to his technical skill and dedication.

Steve’s passion for the water doesn’t stop at the workshop. He was also actively involved in offshore powerboat racing, combining technical precision with high-speed adrenaline — an experience that further sharpened his eye for performance and reliability.

Now back where it all started, Steve brings his expertise home to Papamoa, launching Bay Yamaha to offer top-quality service, sales, and genuine Yamaha parts to the local boating community. Passionate about boating and Yamaha product, Steve is dedicated to helping customers get the best out of their time on the water.

When he’s not in the workshop, you’ll find Steve out fishing, exploring the backcountry on a hunt, or enjoying life on two wheels — motorcycles are another lifelong passion.
